Demba Ba accuses officials of racism
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAuEY7gRh6U

Here's the video

Massive overreaction, You now can't even call a black person black without them being offended.

It wouldn't be the terms I'd use personally, but this nonsense has to stop.

Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
The Romanian offcial used word Negru which is Romanian for black and he used it to say "ive sent off the black guy over there"

Webo (the black coach sent off) then goes mental asking why he called him a Nigger. Totally incorrect.

Then Ba calmly asks who he described him as a black bloke.

Thats the incident. they walked off for that. get ready for more walk offs for small small incidents. what on earth will people do when they find out banks dont loan black people money?!

Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
He called him NEGRU which is Romanian for black.

You can see why he might be pissed off.

Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
Last time I checked, Ba is black.

If there were a bunch of black players and 1 white person, and the official asked who he sent off and replied "the white guy over there", nothing would be said.

Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
So the word, negro, is offensive?

Goose is a lost soul.

Desperate to see racists everywhere and with such an insatiable appetite for it that he is only happy when it is manufactured in sufficient quantities to at least give him a daily taste.

Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
Goose - i believe spanish for black is negru too. neither languages saying NEGRU should be confused with Nigger which is totally different and different meaning and totally offensive. They used the word black. try to forget the similarity between a colour and an offensive term. its like being outraged at someone saying the word Can't cos it sounds like cunt

Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
Calling a black person a negro isn’t acceptable.

Negru & negro clearly sound very similar.

Like I said on the other thread, you can see where it’s got confused and why the fella has (mistakenly) got upset.

Anyone really surprised at the point to which all this cobblers has lead us to?

All just a massive turn off really isn’t it?

Farcical.

Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
goose, are you forgetting the word for black is different in certain languages?

In our language, negro is offensive, negru in romanian means black man.

Two completely different things.

Hence why Cavani wasn't given a punishment for using the word negru either.

Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
goose

In Liberia, their government state that only NEGROS are entitled to be citizens of Liberia. Anyone else is not regardless of how long you have lived there for.
So would George Weah have stayed on the pitch telling everyone he is a proud NEGRO whilst watching others walk off the pitch. LANGUAGE and CULTURE make a massive difference you see. The Romanian meant nothing racist by his comment and he certainly didnt mean to offend little old white you.
dont be so woke man, sleep a little.

Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
so you dont think there is a chance a misheard him and reacted as such?

Hallerinthemorning 12:31 Wed Dec 9
Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
then a full apology from all players should be incoming then right?

goose 12:33 Wed Dec 9
Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
maybe. who knows?

the thrust of this thread is 'you cant call a black person black'. you can but you cant call them a negro.

which is what the guy thought he heard, and (over) reacted to.

Block 12:36 Wed Dec 9
Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
He didn't call them a negro, Goose.

He used the term of a black person in his mothers tongue, which is negru.

Playing the race card is all very "in" at the moment, sadly people are looking for any excuse.

The players need to apologise for over reacting and labelling someone without knowing what was exactly said.

You seem happy to give one side the benefit of doubt but not the other.

Do you think Pierre Webó was upset before he heard (he had just been set off for being too upset) and was looking to start a bigger fight? He is still going after the ref first before switching to the 4th official in the first seconds after the statement is clearly heard.

Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
Goose, if he misheard him, and the context was then explained to him, is it beyond him to be big enough to accept the confusion and, as an adult, crack on?

Or are we beyond being rational about ANYTHING?

Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
It’s a needlessly tricky subject really

If, of the 22 players, they were all German except 2 who were french and the 4th official had said ‘the french guy over there’ would there be uproar?

You certainly can argue that the official wouldn’t say ‘the white guy there’, unless the 20 or 21 of the players were black.

But I don’t really understand why it’s quite so offensive to identify the person dismissed as being black when they are. It hasn’t been used in a derogatory way. He hasn’t made any assumptions about the person based on their colour. And he can’t say ‘the number 9’ or whatever as it was a member of the coaching staff not a player. I guess my white privilege prevents me from understanding it.

One thing I would point out though is that I do hesitate before describing someone as ‘black’ now as I’m never sure whether you’re allowed to and in what context it’s ok. I would think sporting officials would know that too

Sven Roeder 12:43 Wed Dec 9
Re: Demba Ba accuses Officials of RACISM
Greg Clarke who resigned after calling black players ‘coloured’ has been given his job back.

So that he can resign again for correcting himself and calling black players black.
